Thomas BRINDLEY 1799-1878, b. Heanor, Derbyshire, Engalnd, son of William BRINDLEY and Ann TRIMMER was a widower, aged 53, (1st wife Elizabeth WHITE d. 1846) who sailed on the "Emma Eugenia" from Plymouth, England 23 Mar 1852, arrived in Portland, Victoria, Australia on 8 July 1852. Also on board the "Emma Eugenia" were :- Fanny Brindley (daughter, 25); William Brindley (son, 22); Thomas Brindley (son 15); John Brindley (son 11), all from Derbyshire, England; religion C of E; all could read and write. Upon arrival at Portland Bay, all were employed by Henry MONRO at "Crawford" station, near Hotspur at 110 pounds per annum for 12 months with rations.

Thomas BRINDLEY 1799-1878, widower, along with his sons William BRINDLEY 1829-1903 John BRINDLEY 1839-1907 left Hotspur, S-W Victoria by bullock dray in 1862, on a very long journey north from S-W Victoria to Queensland where they selected land and settled at Surat (Maranoa), west of Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. Thomas BRINDLEY died at Surat, Queensland in 1878 and his son William BRINDLEY 1829-1903 also died there in 1903. His son John BRINDLEY 1839-1907 married and raised a family in Queensland (information below).

Thomas BRINDLEY 1837-1893 (son of William BRINDLEY above), and his sister Frances BRINDLEY 1826-1897, who married John SWIFT, remained in the Hotspur and Coleraine areas of south-west Victoria.
