James BRUNTON was a shepherd and farmer who emigrated from Liverpool, England to Portland, Victoria on the "UTOPIA" 1853/4 along with his wife, Lucy McINNES whom he married on the 5 Jun 1838 at Kintail, Ross and Cromarty (ROC), Scotland and their children, who were all born in Inverness-shire; James BRUNTON b. 1839; Richard BRUNTON b. 1841, married Susannah KING; Jessie BRUNTON b. 1846, married Thomas BURGESS and Anne BRUNTON b. 1843/1844, who married George Charles Cheape ALLARDICE at Ardgartan Station (Near Digby) in 1865.

James BRUNTON's first wife Lucy died at Branxholme, Victoria in 1852 and he married a second time to Sarah YOUNG at Stawell, Victoria in 1878.
