William MARSH born 1818, Plymouth, England, son of Richard MARSH and Johanna HILL was a sawyer of Digby Forest & Deep Creek who married Catherine FENWICK, b. ca 1832 Edinburgh, Scotland, daughter of John FENWICK and Johannah FORSYTH.
William and Catherine were married at the "dwelling of C. WHYTE", Hotspur in March, 1864. Charles McBeath WHYTE was the Innkeeper of the "Crawford Inn" at Hotspur at this time, which indicates they were probably married at "The Crawford Inn". Witnesses were John HICKS and Thomas BURGESS. William MARSH was recorded as a widower as he had previously been married to Maria SHEPHERD in England.
Catherine FENWICK had arrived from Scotland in 1862 and was engaged by Mrs LACKMANN of Digby.
William MARSH died in 1897 at Hotspur and was buried in the Digby Cemetery.
Catherine MARSH appears to have died in 1921 at Lockhart, NSW as some of her family had moved north to this area.
