Donald MATHESON, b. 1846, Perthshire, Scotland, son of Alexander MATHESON 1820-1873 and Isabella GRAHAM 1825-1886 arrived at Portland, S-W Victoria, Australia with his parents and sister in 1852.

Elizabeth Jane Morris HONEYBALL, b. 1844, London, England, daughter of John HONEYBALL 1820-1913 and Grace CONDON 1816-1896.

Donald MATHESON, sawmiller of Hotspur, S-W Victoria and Elizabeth Jane Morris HONEYBALL of Portland were married in 1869 and she died a few months after their marriage.

Flora Annie McEACHERN, b. 1859, "East Strathdownie" Station, daughter of "Long John" McEACHERN 1828-1908 and Annie McLEAN 1828-1897.

Donald MATHESON, sawmiller of Hotspur, S-W Victoria and Flora Annie McEACHERN of Strathdownie & Nelson S-W Victoria were married at Portland in 1880 and they had a family of eight children.

  • 1869 : Samuel CONDON & Donald MATHESON established their sawmill by 1869 at Stony Rises, halfway between Hotspur & Heywood, S-W Victoria, Australia
  • 1880 : Samuel CONDON & Donald MATHESON moved their sawmill before 1880 to Wheeler's Swamp, near Hotspur where they operated for a number of years
  • 1882-85 : Donald & Flora MATHESON owned the "Rising Sun Hotel" at Hotspur, then sold out to Robert MILLER, chemist of Casterton.
  • 1888 : Samuel CONDON & Donald MATHESON moved their sawmilling operation to Kalangadoo, near Mount Gambier, South Australia and had a contract for sleepers for the Mount Gambier to Naracoorte railway.
  • ~1890 : after completing the contract at Mount Gambier they moved their sawmill to Moonlight Flat or Myaring, between Merino & Dartmoor, S-W Victoria.

Donald MATHESON 1842-1908 & Flora Annie McEACHERN 1846-1917 had the following children:
