Alexander McDONALD b. 1818, Urray, Ross & Cromarty, Scotland, son of Donald McDONALD and Ellen GRANT was married in 1849 to Ann MATHESON b. 1829 Ross Shire, Scotland, daughter of Kenneth MATHESON and Elizabeth McKENZIE. This Kenneth MATHESON died at Digby, Victoria in 1870, aged 90y.

The family had arrived in Victoria by 1856 when a son Kenneth was born in Melbourne. It is possible that they may have arrived at Portland on the "John DAVIES" in 1852.

From 1860 to 1870 births of additional children were registered at Branxholme, Hotspur & Digby in S-W Victoria.

The family appears to have moved to the Warracknabeal area then later to Amphitheatre in the goldfields region of central Victoria from the Digby, Hotspur area after 1870.

Alexander & Anne McDONALD died at Amphitheatre in 1907 and 1915 respectively.
