Isle of Skye, Scotland ; "Crawford" Station, Hotspur, S-W Victoria, Australia Alexander McLEOD, b. c1809 Duntulm, Kilmuir, Isle of Skye, Inverness-shire, Scotland, was married to Christina McMILLAN, b. c 1809 Isle of Skye, Inverness-shire, Scotland. Alexander McLEOD & family were employed by Lord MacDONALD at Duntulm, Kilmuir Parish, Isle of Skye, when they were sent as a part of the Highlander & Islander Emigration Scheme (H.I.E.S.) to Australia in 1854. Alexander McLEOD, along with his wife Christina McMILLAN and 6 children, arrived on the "New Zealander" at Portland Bay, S-W Victoria, Australia in 1853. It would appear that the family was employed by Henry MONRO of "Crawford" Station in 1855 as another son John was born there at that time. It also appears that some members of this McLEOD were at the Ballarat diggings by 1860. Some of the children moved to the Goulburn distict in New South Wales.
