Unity CORRIE 1839-1908

George SOUTHERN born 1836, Staffordshire, England, son of William SOUTHERN and Mary OTTEY arrived at Port Phillip on the "Sultana" (aged 21y) in March, 1858.

Unity CORRIE born c.1839, Co Tyrone, Ireland, daughter of John CORRIE and Rose DONEWAY arrived at Portland, S-W Victoria on the "British Empire" (age 18y) in September 1857.

George SOUTHERN, Bar-keeper of Casterton, S-W Victoria and Unity CORRIE, servant of Casterton, S-W Victoria, were married at Portland, S-W Victoria in April 1862. They soon travelled north to Queensland where they had a daughter in 1863 and then another five children were born back in Victoria from 1865 to 1878.

George SOUTHERN had the "Sandford Hotel" near Casterton, S-W Victoria in 1870 when it was gutted by fire and a son George was born there in 1871.

George SOUTHERN has not been traced after the mid 1870s.........????..........

George SOUTHERN was the Innkeeper at the "Woolpack Inn" at Digby from 1873 to 1887 when it was destroyed by fire.

Mrs Unity SOUTHERN advertised the "Woolpack Inn" at Digby for sale in 1886. The "Woolpack Inn" was destroyed by fire in February 1887, and Mrs Unity SOUTHERN was convicted of the arson of the "Woolpack Inn" at Digby and sent to gaol for 4 years in May 1887.

Unity SOUTHERN (nee CORRIE) died and was buried at Ballarat in 1908 and was buried there with her daughter Annie who had died there in 1890.

George SOUTHERN & Unity CORRIE had the following known family:

E. M. and W. SOUTHERN was on the list of buyers of original Digby town allotments.

1875 - E. SOUTHERN listed as Chief Ranger for Court Perseverance No 3319, Ancient Order of Foresters at Digby.
