Charles McBeath WHYTE b. 1829 Aberdeen, Scotland, son of John WHYTE and Christian MILNE was married in 1858 at Merino, S-W Victoria to Susannah HICKS b. 1840 Co Wicklow, Ireland, daughter of John HICKS and Ellen DALTON.

1862 - In the Digby Court of Petty Sessions, 10 Sep 1862, David Blair STONE of Hotspur transferred His Publican's General Licence for the Crawford Inn to Charles WHYTE. Surities were - John HICKS of Merino and James BOXER of Merino.

1863 - In the Digby Court of Petty Sessions, 20 Apr 1863, Charles WHYTE of Hotspur applied for and was granted a General Publican's Licence for the "Crawford Inn" at Hotspur. Surities were - Duncan McEACHERN of Kangaroo Station and John SMITH of Hotspur.

1864 - In the Digby Court of Petty Sessions, 27 Apr 1864, Charles WHYTE of Hotspur applied for and was granted a General Publican's Licence for the "Crawford Inn" at Hotspur and the licence was again extended on 29 Jun 1864. Surities were - John HICKS of Merino and Alfred T FARLEY of Digby.

1864 - Charles WHYTE of Hotspur took over the Publican's Licence for the "Woolpack Inn" at Digby from Matthew TOWNSEND.

1865 - In the Digby Court of Petty Sessions, 31 May 1865, Charles WHYTE of Hotspur applied for and was granted a transfer of his General Publican's Licence for the "Crawford Inn" at Hotspur to Loughlan McLEAN.

Charles McBeath WHYTE & Susannah HICKS had the following children:

  2. John WHYTE b. 1860 Merino, S-W Victoria, d. 1923, Melbourne, Vic., m. 1880, Maria FITZGIBBON 1857-1932.
    John WHYTE enlisted in the 1st AIF in 1914, aged 53y (stated 42y), served on Gallipoli (Aug-Sep 1915), invalided (hernia) home in Sep 1915.
    John WHYTE & Maria FITZGIBBON had the following children...;
    1. Lillie WHYTE, b. 1881, Footscray, Vic., d, 1949, Geelong, Vic., m. Francies Leonard VAUTIER ~1870-1946
    2. John WHYTE, b. 1883, Carlton, Vic., d. 1942 Heidleberg, Vic

  3. Ellen WHYTE b. 1862 Hotspur, S-W Victoria, d. 1893, Camberwell, near Singleton, NSW, m. Patrick NUGENT 1861-1938 [daughter Ethel May NUGENT 1889-1968];

  4. Christina "Teeny" WHYTE b. 1865 Digby, S-W Victoria, d. 1937, Adelaide, SA., m. 1887, James WHITE 1863-1936 [both buried in Casterton, Vic.];

  5. Elspeth WHYTE b. 1868 Digby, S-W Victoria, d. 1918, Ballarat, Vic., m. George BUCKLE 1867-1948 [9 children at Merino, S-W Vic.].
