John WILLIAMS c.1827-1881, b. Halifax, Yorkshire, England, son of ............. was married in 1853 at "Glenorchy" Station, Merino - Digby, Victoria to Jane McINNIS 1835-1902, b. Isle of Coll, Scotland, daughter of Donald McINNES & Mary Jane McFADYEN. Jane had arrived at Portland, Victoria in August 1852, on the "Flora McDonald" with her parents and 5 siblings who were employed on "Glenorchy" station, near Merino, Victoria for 12 months.
It is likely that John WILLIAMS was also working on "Glenorchy" station and they had 3 children in the area from 1853 to 1859.
By 1860 John WILLIAMS was employed by Francis HENTY as a shepherd on the nearby "Merino Downs" station when his 4th child, Samuel was born. Tragically in 1864, Samuel died from burns after his clothes caught alight in a shepherd's hut on "Merino Downs".
Another 3 children were born in the Merino area from 1862 to 1867. By 1869 the family had moved west over the border to the Mount Gambier area of South Australia when their last child Donald was born and died there.
In 1877 John WILLIAMS was a recorded as a shepherd employed by Mr. W. F. PLOENGES in the hundred of Caroline near Mount Gambier, South Australia.
John WILLIAMS died, aged 54y from phthisis on 30 Sep 1881, Mount Gambier, SA., and was buried in the local cemetery.
Jane WILLIAMS (nee McINNES), widow of John WILLIAMS, died aged 67y at Millicent, South Australia in 1902 and was buried in the Millicent cemetery.
