Alexander Gregor McKINNON b. c.1812 Portree, Isle of Skye, Scotland, son of ___ and ___ was married in 1843, Raasay, Inverness, Scotland to Christina McRAE, b. 1812, Ross & Cromarty, Scotland, daughter of Finlay McRAE and Isobell McKENZIE.

The family arrived in 1854 and lived in Adelaide for seven years before purchasing land at Tahara West, near Merino, south west Victoria in 1860.

Alexander Gregor McKINNON and Christina McRAE had the following family....

  2. Euphemia Mairi McKINNON, b. 1846, Portree, Skye/Raasay, Inverness-shire, Scotland6; d. 31 March 1937, Portland, Victoria; m. Matthew TOWNSEND
  3. Gregor Charles McKINNON, b. 1849, Portree, Skye/Raasay, Inverness-shire, Scotland; d. 06 September 1937, 'Brownlow', Kingscote, Kangaroo Island, SA; m. 1911 to Isabella HOLMES (nee DUNCAN), b. ~1849; d. 06 May 1930, Kangaroo Island, SA.
  4. William Malcolm McKINNON, b. April 1853, Portree, Skye/Raasay, Inverness-shire, Scotland; d. 18 March 1903, Digby, Victoria.

Christna McKINNON died at Tahara, near Merino 1984.

Alexander Gregor McKINNON married again in 1865 to Mary PATTERSON, daughter of Donald PATTERSON and Ann McGILLIVRAY who had arrived at Portland in 1853 on the "New Zealander". This second marriage does not appear to have lasted as when Mary died in 1889 she was living with her brother Angus PATTERSON at Muddy Creek, south of Hamilton. This can be seen in the report of her death....

"The Hamilton Spectator" 7 & 12/3/1889. McGREGOR. Mary McGREGOR, a Presbyterian, aged 54y, also known as Mary PATTERSON, who lived with her brother, Angus PATTERSON, of Muddy Creek, died in the Hamilton Hospital on 4/3/1889. She was married to Alexander McKinnon McGREGOR [sic Alexander Gregor McKINNON], who moved to Merino some time ago.

Alexander Gregor McKINNON moved to South Australia and died in Adelaide in 1903.
